Research overview

MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial genome. Since its description in 2015 it has been studied as a mitochondrial signaling molecule that influences nuclear gene expression and cellular metabolism.

Research areas include AMPK activation, folate–methionine cycle regulation, exercise physiology and insulin sensitivity in rodent models.

Areas of published research

  • AMPK activation and mitochondrial signaling
  • Insulin sensitivity and glucose handling in rodent models
  • Exercise physiology and endurance research
  • Age-related metabolic decline studies

The list above summarises where this compound appears in the scientific literature. It describes research activity, not properties or effects of any product sold here.

Storage and handling

  • Lyophilized vials: store at −20 °C for long-term storage, or 2–8 °C for up to several weeks. Keep sealed and protected from light.
  • Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening, so moisture does not condense on the cold powder.
  • After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8 °C and use within 28 days. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
  • Add diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently; do not shake.

Documentation

Each lot is tested by an independent laboratory for purity (RP-HPLC) and identity (mass spectrometry). The certificate of analysis for your lot ships with the order; copies for any lot can be requested through the contact page with the lot number from the vial label. Read our guide on how to read a certificate of analysis.
