Research overview

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide consisting of the ACTH fragment 4–7 (Met-Glu-His-Phe) extended with Pro-Gly-Pro. Developed in Russia, it has a substantial literature in rodent models of cerebral ischemia and in studies of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression.

Supplied for neuroscience research on melanocortin-related signaling, neurotrophin expression and cognitive-behavioral models.

Areas of published research

  • BDNF and TrkB expression studies
  • Cerebral ischemia and neuroprotection models
  • Attention and memory behavioral assays in rodents

Storage and handling

  • Lyophilized vials: store at −20 °C for long-term storage, or 2–8 °C for up to several weeks. Keep sealed and protected from light.
  • Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening, so moisture does not condense on the cold powder.
  • After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8 °C and use within 28 days. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
  • Add diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently; do not shake.

Documentation

Each lot is tested by an independent laboratory for purity (RP-HPLC) and identity (mass spectrometry). The certificate of analysis for your lot ships with the order; copies for any lot can be requested through the contact page with the lot number from the vial label.
